1. What was your experience performing on The First Take? What was your biggest feeling in that moment?

The performance experience on The First Take was truly unforgettable and dreamlike. Right after singing, my biggest thought was, “If I had another chance, how would I sing it differently?” But within a second, I dismissed that idea. I believe the real purpose of The First Take is to capture that very moment—what happens and our authentic vocal interpretation and expression of the song. Even any flaws or imperfections are meaningful imprints left from that unique instant.
2. You mentioned that this new song “Flyin’ for your love” is meant to express your passion for singing. Could you share the inspiration behind this song?

“Flyin’ for your love” (2882點85✈) is a love song about long-distance relationships, reflecting the many stories during the pandemic when people were separated from loved ones. It also symbolizes chasing dreams, like my own journey to becoming a professional singer. The 2882.85 kilometers—about a four-and-a-half-hour flight—represent the distance between me and my goals. It feels both close and far, much like reaching The First Take stage in Tokyo. This song expresses that hopeful but uncertain pursuit of dreams and connection.
3. Transitioning from being a math teacher to a singer-songwriter, what challenges did you face in this process? How did you overcome them?

I don’t agree with calling it a “transition” from math teacher to singer-songwriter, because that word caused me the biggest challenge. Thinking of it as a transition means separating two identities. Instead, I realized it’s about combining them to highlight their commonalities. The real challenge was maintaining both identities simultaneously. Once I learned to integrate them, what I thought was a difficult transition became the best possible blending of who I am, overcoming the challenge completely.
4. Before singing, you mentioned taking special care of your voice. Could you share some of your usual vocal maintenance techniques?

Before the performance, I took extra care of my vocal cords. Normally, I’m not very cautious—I believe avoiding spicy foods or cold drinks too much might make my voice fragile. Besides warming up and cooling down, I don’t restrict my diet to protect my voice. However, this time, wanting to give 100 percent, I did acupuncture, bloodletting therapy, and avoided carbohydrates temporarily to reduce inflammation. All these measures were to ensure my voice was in its best possible condition for the occasion.
5. During your performance on The First Take, you were moved to tears by the memory of your father. How has this experience influenced your music creation?

After singing on The First Take, I reflected on my father’s story. This song is partly about chasing dreams, and when he passed away, it felt like my dream journey had abruptly ended. So today, performing in Japan on The First Take feels surreal—like a dream I thought had ended but now continues. Through this song about flying, I hope to feel closer to my dad in heaven and let him hear my work from there.
6. Are there any new projects or plans you can share with us? What kind of goals do you hope to achieve in music?

In the future, I hope to share more songs of various styles for everyone to enjoy. For example, from the recent The First Take song “Flyin’ for your love” (2882點85✈) to the previous “Round O’Clock Café” (不打烊珈琲屋) and last year’s “Fill In The Blanks” (我的課本留白處), they’re all quite different. I want to showcase diverse musical styles to reveal the many possibilities and facets of my music. While I once focused on City Pop’s lifestyle and aesthetics, I refuse to let that limit my musical growth.
