July Cover Story: Their Best Summer, Your Best Memories.
Elanne Kong on Crafting Magical Moments, Balancing Dreams, and Finding Joy in the Beautiful Chaos of Motherhood

To the public, Elanne Kong is a beloved singer who has captured hearts across generations—a familiar face whose voice has accompanied countless listeners through their own journeys of love, loss, and renewal. But behind the spotlight, she is also a devoted mother to her three-year-old son, Owen, navigating the delicate dance between pursuing her rekindled musical dreams and showing up fully for the little boy who calls her “the most beautiful mummy in the world.”
In this exclusive July cover story, we sit down with Elanne as she opens up about her summer plans for Owen, the parenting “magic tricks” that save her sanity, and the nightly rituals that remind her why every exhausted moment is absolutely worth it.
A New Chapter, A Familiar Passion

After stepping back from the limelight to focus on family, Elanne made a quiet but powerful decision: she would return to her first love—music. “Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been reintroducing myself as a singer,” she shares, her eyes lighting up. “I’ve been sharing different sides of my life, my reflections, my dreams. And very soon, I’ll be releasing a new project—a full music video that I’m incredibly excited about.” The transition hasn’t been seamless. Juggling the demands of motherhood with the rigorous schedule of recording sessions and rehearsals requires a level of discipline that Elanne admits can be exhausting. “It’s not easy—truly, it’s not,” she says with a knowing smile. “Sometimes I can only squeeze in time to record when Owen is asleep, or during those rare pockets of quiet in the day. But I’ve found a rhythm. I’m learning to balance, and honestly, I think I’m doing okay.”
Summer of Splashes: Owen’s Ultimate “Discharge” Plan

With Owen now three years old—a whirlwind of boundless energy and endless curiosity—Elanne has devised the ultimate summer itinerary designed to channel that enthusiasm into joyful, memory-making experiences. “Summer, to me, absolutely means water,” she declares with unmistakable enthusiasm. “And for Owen, water is pure magic.” Her vision for the season is refreshingly simple yet intentional: island excursions where they can kayak together, sandy beach days where Owen can dig and splash to his heart’s content, and trips to various water spots where the simple joy of getting sprayed in the face sends him into fits of delighted giggles. “He’s at that wonderful stage where swimming is the most exciting thing in the world,” Elanne explains. “So this summer, I’ve planned a family trip—maybe Thailand, or somewhere equally warm—where we can just be in the water, play, laugh, and make a mess. Those are the moments I want to remember.”
The Parenting “Secret Weapons” Every Mum Should Know

Like any modern mother navigating the challenges of raising a toddler, Elanne has accumulated her own arsenal of parenting hacks. But one recent discovery stands out as an absolute game-changer. “There’s this device I’ve been using—I honestly can’t recommend it enough,” she says, leaning in conspiratorially. “It’s a little machine that plays story cards. After dinner, I can put a card in, and it narrates stories while I finally have my hands free. It works with Chinese stories, English stories, Mandarin stories—you name it.” What makes it even more special, she adds, is the personal touch: “You can even record your own voice reading stories and upload them. So even when I’m not physically there, Owen can hear my voice. It’s become a staple in our home, and so many of my mum friends have gone out and bought one too.” It’s a small tool, but for Elanne, it represents something larger—the creative ways mothers everywhere are finding to stay connected to their children even in the midst of chaos.
Pillow Talk: The Sacred Two-Hour Ritual

But beyond the gadgets and the outings, Elanne’s most cherished parenting tradition costs nothing at all. “Every single night, we have what I call our ‘Pillow Talk’—our magic time,” she shares, her voice softening. “It’s about two hours, sometimes two and a half, where it’s just the two of us. No distractions. No phones. Just stories, conversations, and connection.”During this nightly ritual, Elanne tells Owen stories about her own childhood, shares little anecdotes from her day, and encourages him to open up about his. “At first, I was the one doing all the talking,” she recalls. “But slowly, it became his time too. He started telling me about his day at school—who made him laugh, what made him sad, which classmate said something funny. It became our safe space.” What touches her most, however, are the words Owen speaks during these intimate moments.“Every night before we sleep, I tell him: ‘Mummy only wants you to be healthy and safe.’ And now, without fail, he says it back: ‘Mummy, I only want you to be healthy and safe.'” She pauses, visibly moved. “Sometimes he’ll tell me, ‘Mummy, I’m never getting married—I’m going to live with you forever.’ Or he’ll say, ‘Mummy, I’ll miss you so much when you go to work.’ And then—his favourite line—’Mummy, you are so beautiful.'” Elanne laughs through the emotion. “He’s such a sweet boy. He melts me completely.”
Three Words for This Chapter of Life

When asked to describe her current self in three words, Elanne doesn’t hesitate. “Happy, exhausted, and lucky,” she says, each word carrying the weight of lived experience. Happy, she explains, because she has a beautiful family and the precious opportunity to chase her dreams once more—a gift she holds close every single day. Exhausted, because pouring herself into two full-time roles—motherhood and music—leaves her running on empty more often than she’d care to admit. But she has come to understand that exhaustion is not a sign of failure; it is simply proof that she is giving everything she has to the people and passions that matter most. And lucky, because she has been entrusted with the most emotionally intelligent, kind-hearted little boy—a child who never tests her patience, who fills her days with sweetness instead of struggle. “So many parents face daily battles,” she reflects. “But Owen? He’s my dream child. I truly feel so, so lucky.”
The Beautiful Chaos of It All

As our conversation winds down, Elanne reflects on the bigger picture—what this season of life truly means. “I think what I want people to understand is that it’s messy,” she admits. “It’s chaotic. Some days I feel like I’m failing at both—as a mother and as an artist. But then Owen wraps his little arms around my neck and says something so unexpectedly sweet, or I step into the recording booth and remember why I fell in love with music in the first place, and I realise—this is it. This is the beautiful chaos I signed up for.” Her summer plans may be modest in scale, but they are monumental in intention: to give Owen a childhood filled with sunlight, laughter, sand between his toes, and the unshakeable knowledge that his mother is fully present. “Because that’s what he’ll remember,” she says simply. “Not the concerts, not the awards, not any of that. He’ll remember the island trips. The kayaking. The way I laughed when he splashed water in my face. That’s the best gift I can give him.”
The Takeaway

Elanne Kong’s story is not one of having it all figured out—it’s one of embracing the beautiful, exhausting, deeply rewarding journey of showing up for the people you love while never forgetting the dreams that make you who you are. This summer, as Owen splashes through puddles and kayaks through island waters, he won’t just be making childhood memories—he’ll be creating the very best memories for his mother too. And that, perhaps, is the most beautiful exchange of all.
