5 Steps For An At-Home Facial

by Ella

There’s no excuse not to do skincare now that we’re spending more time at home. Here are five simple steps and product recommendations to DIY your own spa day.

Clean your skin

First things first – start with a clean canvas. Remove any makeup for a more effective facial. If you haven’t before, give double cleansing a try. Start with an oil-based cleanser to get rid of makeup and sebum then follow up with a water-based cleanser to clear your skin of any leftover grime.

Recommendation: Soy Face Cleanser from FRESH

Exfoliate your skin

Smooth and brighten your skin by getting rid of dead skin cells to give way to radiant skin underneath. You can use a chemical exfoliator or a physical exfoliator. We recommend using a peel on problem areas such as your T-zone.

Recommendation: Daily Superfoliant from DERMALOGICA

Use a mask

Make your facial feel like the real thing by massaging in a mask. Feel free to pick whatever mask you want based on your skin’s needs, but we recommend using a detoxifying mask, such as a clay mask or a charcoal mask, to help clean out your pores.

Dab on a serum or essence

Now that your skin is all prepped, pat on some serum or essence. These are light and powerful formulas that are filled with rich ingredients, delivered quickly to your skin. The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, for example, is a clear and watery so your skin can quickly absorb all the goodness.

Put on moisturiser

Lastly, lock in the hydration with a good quality moisturiser. An affordable, but still spa-like product that we love is Clinique’s Moisture Surge Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. Great for all skin types, it’s a refreshing oil-free gel-cream with aloe bio-ferment to make your skin look plump and glowing.
