What a wonderful day we had at the international festival! There were booths from countries all over the world, such as India, Brazil, France, Sweden, Dominica Republic, China, Australia, UK and many more. The children had a real taster in sampling delicious foods from each country, learning about their culture and history, and dressing up in colourful costumes. They also enjoyed watching amazing performances from different cultural groups, such as dances, songs, and Taekwondo. It was truly a magnificent gathering that celebrated our diversity and unity. The school is so grateful to their parents and PTA, who participated and made this event possible and spectacular.

A crucial aspect of the DP Geography course is the lA field trip for data collection. This year the L6 geography students ventured with Mr. Argyle and Mr. Woodburn to Sai Kung Country Park to analyse the fluviology of the Lung Hang River. Their aim was to investigate how the river’s physical characteristics vary between the upper and lower course and how closely it follows the idealised Bradshaw Model. They hiked Maclehose Section 3 to the source of the river and measured its depth at intervals to create a cross-sectional profile. It was a fun trip but the heat and climb proved a little exhausting for some of our intrepid geographers!

Hong Kong Academy is pleased to announce the successful completion of its Head of School search process. The school’s preferred candidate, Kasson Bratton, has accepted the offer to join HKA in July 2024. Kasson is currently the Deputy Head of School and Director of Learning at Nanjing International School in China, where he has worked for the past nine years. Kasson’s understanding of the international school ecosystem in East Asia, leadership infusing global citizenship into the curriculum and commitment to cultivating rigorous and inclusive learning communities strongly align with HKA’s mission and vision for our next stages of development. The Board looks forward to supporting a seamless Head of School transition over the next 13 months.

AHOY ME HEARTIES! Sai Kung Year 1 had a blast today on their ‘Pirate Day!’ The children made a jaw-dropping discovery this morning! They were so excited that they wanted to find out about Cheung Po Tsai.

Using their fantastic research skills, they have started to find some fascinating facts about the pirate! The children also loved exploring different pirate flags, creating their own flags and writing secret messages using the Maritime signal flag alphabet. We cannot wait to see what the rest of this topic brings!

During Assembly on Wednesday, they were delighted to officially launch and announce the return of the 2023 AISHK Shakespeare Festival; a time when they share the magic of the bard with the entire school community. This year, the festival will be taking place through Weeks 7, 8 and 9 with ample opportunity for every student to contribute in the manner that feels most meaningful to them. At the heart of the festival is the performance competition which will take place on June 16 and is open to all students in Years 7 to 10. This is a great opportunity for our ‘Shakespearean Scholars’ to unleash their creativity, exhibit their talents and challenge themselves through performance, stage direction, costume design or other avenues of creative engagement. This year, the competition categories include group performance, individual monologue performance, poster design and creative adaption/interpretation. They certainly can’t wait to see what they come up with!

Able to conclude the week in the company of an esteemed group of colleagues gathered as part of a roundtable discussion on the utilisation of artificial intelligence in education, I reflect most prominently upon an extraordinary array of performances from students assigned to Year 4 classes last night. Leading the dramatic production of You Are Special, they wowed peers and parents alike with their confident articulation.

“It is through the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Fellows-in-Residence proudly presents – Antoine de Saint Exupery’s classic “The Little Prince” tonight at the auditorium. The play was performed by students under the guidance of the director Mr. Allan Nazareno, the Artist-in-Residence Theatre of the Yew Chung Education Foundation. Faithful to the all time classic, the talented cast showed their endless passion and energy on the stage, and told us a beautiful story about friendship, loneliness, sadness and love, which touched everyone’s heart
