I rely on setting alarms for everything, each one labeled so I know its purpose. Staying closely connected to the office is crucial, as is keeping track of my kids’ schedules for school and other activities. This awareness makes adjusting my own schedule much easier. Having an understanding husband is essential. He knows that on busy days, balancing work, household chores, and caring for the kids can sometimes mean he isn’t the top priority. Juggling all these responsibilities is a constant effort.

When I’m not at work or with the kids, I’m at home preparing meals, cleaning, organizing, and looking after our two dogs. There’s always something that needs attention, so I’m constantly on my toes. Being a mother to both human and fur babies, as well as caring for my husband, means being prepared for anything. I always carry an emergency bag with essentials like first aid supplies, toothpaste, and other necessities. I like to be ready for any situation, from needing to wash hands to dealing with minor emergencies like cuts or wounds. This emergency kit is always in my bag, giving me peace of mind knowing I’m prepared for the unexpected.

2.In what ways has becoming a mother influenced your perspective on the fashion industry, particularly in terms of sustainability and ethical practices?

Motherhood has completely shifted my view of fashion, particularly in terms of sustainability. Witnessing how quickly kids outgrow clothes made me realize the importance of finding ways to extend the life of garments. When my first child was born, she received numerous adorable dresses that she barely had the chance to wear before growing out of them. In response, I discovered wonderful charities that accepted these dresses, as well as engaged in a tradition of passing clothes down within my community. I would collect gently used items, post on social media offering them to others, and even personally deliver them to make it easier for busy moms.

Additionally, I started exploring secondhand shops in Hong Kong for events and found gems at places like Goodwill and Redress. Purchasing pre-loved items not only saved time but also allowed me to wear designer pieces guilt-free, knowing they could be reused by someone else afterward. Embracing my post-pregnancy body shape, I now opt for more comfortable, practical clothing that suits my active lifestyle as a busy mom juggling various responsibilities.

The impact of fast fashion on our environment is deeply concerning. Many trending items from Instagram brands end up in landfills because of their poor quality and unsustainable materials. These garments often lack longevity and are challenging to care for, leading to their disposal after minimal use. As I grow older, I increasingly prioritize materials that can withstand the test of time, seeking out pieces that are durable and sustainable in their design and production.

In line with these values, I have preserved many of my designer dresses for my daughter, storing them carefully for her future use. This practice reflects a commitment to passing down quality garments rather than contributing to the cycle of disposable fashion. I believe in creating a legacy of cherished clothing that transcends trends. Looking ahead, I hope to see a shift in the industry towards more sustainable practices, with a focus on durable materials, timeless designs, and a culture of reuse and preservation that values the longevity of fashion pieces for generations to come.

4.What are some of the biggest challenges you face in balancing your various roles, and how do you find fulfillment in each area of your life?

One of the most considerable challenges I face is the inability to be in two places simultaneously. The struggle often arises when my son and daughter have conflicting schedules, compounded by the absence of a helper. For example, when my daughter has gymnastics and my son refuses to join, or when he has taekwondo and she shows little interest in participating, maintaining a fair balance becomes a complex task of managing their activities.

Navigating these dynamics requires constant negotiation between the needs of both children. Additionally, I frequently find myself evaluating work priorities to determine what is essential and what can be delegated. This week, with the chaos of fashion week events, the schedule has been particularly hectic, leaving me to streamline my commitments. Despite professional demands, my children have emphasized the importance of my presence at home, insisting that I allocate at least four evenings this week to tuck them into bed.

Balancing these responsibilities presents ongoing challenges, yet finding moments of fulfillment in each area of my life remains a priority amidst the whirlwind of activities.

5.What advice would you give to other women who are trying to juggle multiple roles, whether in fashion or other industries? How can they prioritize their well-being while pursuing their passions?

My advice is to not let anyone convince you that you can’t handle it. Juggling numerous responsibilities can be overwhelming and may drive you to moments of frustration where you feel like breaking down. During these times, find a quiet moment, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that you are capable. I often found myself in this position, especially when my children were young, struggling with the decision of whether to prioritize being with them or attending to daily tasks. It’s a challenging balancing act, particularly with young children, but remember, they will grow, and you will endure.

It’s crucial to prioritize self-care amidst the chaos. Find moments to recharge, seek support from loved ones or professionals, and allocate time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Remember, you are not alone, and it’s okay to ask for help when needed. With perseverance and self-compassion, you can navigate the complexities of managing various roles while safeguarding your well-being.
