The 2025 Haikou Art Week, held from September 28 to October 8, showcased how deeply creativity pulses through the city. Nearly 150 events across parks, villages, and urban centers brought a festive atmosphere that captured the imagination of visitors worldwide. On the lush lawns of Evergreen Park, concerts and drone shows filled the night sky with color and rhythm. In century-old villages, models glided down volcanic stone pathways in traditional Mamian skirts, merging historical elegance with modern artistry. Meanwhile, in Qilou Old Street, art exhibitions bridged East and West with striking displays of visual and performance works.
One of the week’s highlights was the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fashion Show, where designers turned paper-cutting — a centuries-old craft — into wearable art. “In Haikou, art is everywhere,” shared Mohammed, a visitor from Sudan, who was fascinated by children dressed in paper-cut-inspired costumes. Families, too, found meaning in the experience. For many parents, the events offered their children a new way to engage with history and creativity beyond the classroom walls.
More than just a one-week celebration, Haikou’s commitment to culture extends into daily life. Reading corners, neighborhood art installations, and creative exhibitions are now part of the local landscape. These initiatives have shaped a city where artistic inspiration is accessible to everyone, building a new rhythm of community and creativity.
During the National Day holiday, the city welcomed over 1.13 million visitors and recorded tourism income exceeding 1.4 billion yuan. Yet, beyond the numbers, what resonates most is how Haikou embodies the idea that art can belong to all — not confined to galleries, but living in parks, streets, and everyday moments.
