27-year-old Kiri T got her start in the music industry writing songs for big-shot singers like Joey Yung and Denise Ho. Now, she’s a singer in her own right. As an artist in Hong Kong, she tells us about her background and why music is important to her, and all about her new Cantonese release coming soon.

1) Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I grew up between Hong Kong, UK and the US — I went to high school in Hong Kong and UK, and college in the US. I am a music artist, producer and songwriter. I write to channel all my emo energy into music and I guess that is my version of self-therapy. Making music keeps me balanced.
2) How would you describe your music style?
I’d like to think of my music as a mixture of pop, R&B and singer-songwriter; a reflection of the cultures that I grew up in, and the identities that developed from that. When I write my songs or arrange the instrumentations or produce the sounds, I like to tie the themes in with colours, for example, “u owe me $$” is red, “10,000 FT” is ocean blue, and “Temporary” is Pink.

3) What does a typical day look like for you?
Wake up, cuddle with my dog, have coffee and breakfast, read, head to the studio to create songs and practise singing/piano/anything music. On a day off I like to chill and hang out with family and close friends and talk about everything and anything.

4) Any new releases or shows coming up that we should know about?
I’m really excited about my upcoming single, it is my first serious Cantonese-plug! Keep an eye out for it!
5) How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?
Making a nice cup of coffee, reading a book that really clicks, and seeing my dog happy.
