Ritzy Chat: Kousar Meajeben, Founder of Meraki

by Ella

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Kousar Meajeben started her online cake shop  in 2020. She makes colorful cakes and always thinks outside of the box with creative design ideas. She tells us how she got her start on her business and plans for the future.

1) What inspired you to start Meraki?

I used to always look at these satisfying and aesthetic baking videos on Instagram, so in June 2020, I was bored of staying at home all the time and I thought maybe I should give it a try and one night I just thought about selling my baked goods. I wanted them to be different, to be out of the box, something people had never seen before, because let’s face it, there are so many bakeries and businesses that sell baked goods. So, I decided to start selling cakesicles, which I didn’t think at that time, a lot of people sold in Hong Kong. And the next thing I knew, it blew up.

2) Tell us about a memorable moment while running your business?

One of my most memorable moment was my first huge bulk order, which was Mother’s day. I sold more than my expectations as that time, I had only opened my business for a few months, and that was when I actually realized that I could do it, that I could handle a business and be an entrepreneur.

3) If you could bring Meraki to anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

Hong Kong is home. I want to thrive here. Always have.

4) What are your business and personal goals for 2022?

I am more of a “go with the flow” kind of person. Hopefully, I will get to open my own bakery in a few years. There is so much I want to bring to the table, so much I want to offer. I know I am still so young but so passionate, so damn passionate. I am also looking forward to collaborating with a few brands.

As for my personal life, I am really looking forward to my dark circles disappearing, which I don’t actually think will happen but I will still look forward to it. On a serious note, personally, I just see myself evolving and becoming a better version of myself. Might get myself a car, might get married, who knows.

5) How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?

My business. I have never been so excited and motivated and inspired to do anything more than this.
