Take risks.
You can never innovate without exploring new ideas.
1. Could you tell me about yourself and your background?
I was born and raised in France – I started my career in fashion working for several brands such as John Galliano and Mexx. I co-founded Vestiaire Collective in 2009 to provide an opportunity for people to extend the lifespan of their preloved items. Following the company’s success in securing its position as Europe’s leading resale site for desirable fashion, I relocated from Paris to London and then to Hong Kong in 2017 to spearhead the company’s expansion into Asia Pacific.
2. What inspired you to start Vestiaire Collective ?
After having my two daughters, I was inspired to start my own company. I came up with the idea to launch Vestiaire Collective after noticing significant changes in the way that people were consuming fashion: buying more and wearing less. The rise of social media and fast fashion has led us from an era of possession to an era of usage, where consumers are urgently in need of a sustainable solution to cope with this behaviour. This soon led to the creation of Vestiaire Collective, a company dedicated to providing an opportunity for people to extend the lifespan of their pre-loved items, therefore minimizing waste in fashion
3. Tell us more about your business?
Founded in Paris in 2009, Vestiaire Collective is the leading global app for desirable pre-loved fashion with offices in Paris, New York, Hong Kong & Berlin. Through our platform, we inspire our community and offer a trusted place to buy and sell unique, pre-loved pieces that are unworn in your wardrobe. We have over 3 million items in our catalogue, with 550,000 new pieces listed each month by our 11M+ members around the world authenticated by our expert teams.
4. What advice do you have for the Moms who want to be a mompreneur?
Success takes discipline and perseverance. It takes hard work and determination when it comes to managing your own business, and it’s up to you as the leader to inspire your team to succeed. Use your time effectively but also be dedicated and focused on your objective. Set clear goals, plan a routine and follow through until the end.
Have a support system. As independent and self-sufficient as you can be, you cannot do it all on your own. You need to surround yourself with people who inspire you to be your best and support your efforts to succeed, be it your family or your friends, because even the strongest person needs support and someone to rely on.
Take risks. You can never innovate without exploring new ideas. You must be willing to take calculated risks and learn through trial and error.
5. How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?
It’s about balance. A good work life balance should include an exercise routine, healthy diet, and sufficient sleep. It is also important to spend quality time with your kids, family and good friends who will always be there for the highs and the lows.
