TEDxTinHauWomen is back to encourage and motivate, putting a spotlight on issues that matter most for communities in Hong Kong as well as the world at large. This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, 10th December 2021 at the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon district.
The theme this year, “What Matters Now?”, will reimagine new possibilities and explore new ideas for how we can live and work better together in years to come. It will present a variety of thought-provoking topics, each re-evaluating what really matters most. It will showcase ideas celebrating optimism and hope amidst the pandemic gloom, pivoting around the sub-themes of Self-care, Purpose and Perspective.

The 2021 TEDxTinHauWomen speakers and their talk titles include:
Arcadia Kim on “Can Screen Time Be Good For Families?”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
To be present in the moment. The last two years have taught us that life is unpredictable, so living each moment with clarity and presence is a huge gift of gratitude and awareness. This is also true IRL (In Real Life) and online!
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
My family! Through this crazy time, my little tribe has become stronger, closer knit, and truly a source of strength and inspiration for me. They are challenging me to spread the word of “infinite screentime” as a new evolved philosophy of parenting and technology. I couldn’t do this without them!
Maitreyi Karanth on “Age is More Than Just a Number, It’s a Journey”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
Ans- One realisation that has led to life becoming a wonderful journey for me is that it’s OK not to have goals. I am riding every wave, keeping my head up every trough and enjoying this journey. 2022 will be no different! The vibes will be of hope, sharing time, joy and love.
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Ans – Sharing matters to me the most. Sharing my story in the case of TEDxTinHauWomen, sharing my earnings in the case of my projects in the Philippines, sharing my time cooking for the people in quarantine or the homeless in HK, sharing my all in the case of my family. Sharing gives me the most happiness.
Viv Kan on “The Sex Organs Nobody Talks About”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
Ans – Wake up with the intention every day to live my life to the fullest, listen mindfully, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Ans – What matters to me is helping other women and couples re-spark intimacy and embody sensuality. There’s a lot of people who are struggling in their intimate relationships and we need to talk more about it.
Mashiat Lamisa on “Finding Joy In Electronics Repair”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
Ans – Goals in 2022 are to do more things that scare me – both career wise and in personal life! Hopefully get to travel more and achieve a few more things from my bucket list.
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Ans – Creating small and big impacts in other people’s lives really matter to me- whether it’s through my work or through the daily choice I make. As for what makes me happy, meeting my family after 2.5 years and making new memories with them would be great.
Chankalun on “Neon Art Hold’s Hong Kong’s Tradition And Lights Our Future”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
To complete my French, Italian and American neon apprenticeship for “The Neon Girl Project”, create experimental neon pieces that explore glass as a medium, and add interactive multimedia elements to them!
Also to launch and build a strong community through “Rabbit Hole”, an NFT collection that integrates a professional metaverse!
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
When I can share my work experience, design knowledge and crafting skills with local underprivileged communities, seeing them smile, feel connected and relaxed or even gain confidence through my little sharings and workshops 🙂
Rachel Moon on “What I Wish I Had Known About Infertility”
- What are your goals in 2022?
a)To survive and thrive my first year of motherhood!
b)To continue to support women through their fertility struggles
c) To never stop learning
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Relationships matter. As we age, we have to be intentional about creating and cultivating them. Being selective about who you give your energy to matters. Your time is precious.
Happiness comes from having meaning in life, being sure of what gets you up in the morning. What brings you joy. Time spent with those who matter to you. Living your life with a curious nature.
A few things that shift the happiness needle north for me are daily movement, time with my partner, time spent quietly and a sense that I used my day wisely.
Puja Kapai on “How the COVID Crisis Can Be An Opportunity For Justice”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
To enhance awareness among young people in particular around the systemic nature of the issues faced by marginalised communities in Hong Kong; to work with people across the community to recognise that each of us has the power and responsibility to drive impactful change.
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Working with young people, especially children, and watching them realise that something they did, however small, made a huge difference to someone else. Helping others harness their inherent power makes me happy. It really matters to me that we all realise that our actions (and inactions) are influential and therefore, we must be more intentional in how we conduct ourselves if we want things around us to change for the better.
Cynthia Cheng on “The Surprising Power Of Talking To Strangers”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
Grow and learn in the field of social impact and storytelling – in particular on social inclusion, sustainability and mental health. Pay more attention to self-care.
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Building authentic, nourishing and meaningful relationships. Spending time in nature – up in the trails and in the ocean!
Shanty on “How You Do You”
1) What are your goals in 2022?
Career wise: getting my music going. Here and in Indonesia.
2) What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Seeing my kids laughing and growing into 2 kind, smart, happy human beings and having artistic soul full filled. Piano, dance, singing, performing and having personal achievements
Louisa Awolaja on “How Curiosity Can Address Racial Inequality in Hong Kong”
1/ What are your goals in 2022?
In 2022 I’m aiming for MORE. More joy, more growth, more adventures, more peace and acceptance of who I am becoming.
2/ What really matters to you and makes you happy?
Connection really is the essence of life, so the people that I love are extremely important to me… And food, food always makes me happy!
