The Aspirers helps students find and achieve their dreams

Hong Kong has plenty of after-school study groups, tutorial centres and admissions helpers, but finding a good one is like finding a needle in a haystack. With so many choices, it’s easy to pick the wrong fit and parents often get overwhelmed. Luckily, The Aspirers offers students the ultimate package by helping them understand more about their own identity, strengths and weaknesses, true passions, as well as their potential.

Founded by Hubert Ho, who has been an admissions counsellor and profile builder for about 10 years, The Aspirers goes deeper than simply helping students achieve good grades or write a compelling personal statment. Ho believes the current education system in Hong Kong cannot cater for the development of students, most of whom don’t know much about their interests and passion, as well as what to do at university and afterwards. By helping them understand themselves, Ho and his team at The Aspirers can guide the student to set up different goals and milestones to actualise their dream.

“Good grades are not the only factor that prestigious schools are looking for now. In recent years, they have a new term for the new factor they are counting on, called ‘civic engagement’,” says Ho. “Actually, it means community service. Then the question again is — what community service? Universities are not looking for simple community service but require students to have a full understanding of their own identity (role in a community), and be able to identify problems, create interventions, execute solutions, evaluate results and carry out self-reflection.”

To address this ‘civil engagement’ and make themselves competitive in the eyes of universities, Ho has carved out a plan for students that takes three to four years. “The best time to come to us will be Grade 5-7 for boarding schools, Grade 9-10 for universities and Year 1-2 for master’s degrees or MBA,” the founder of The Aspirers says. “Starting from profile analysis, we will identify the student’s strengths and weaknesses and available resources around him/her. We then help in searching for the true passion and what can be value-added to their profile in order to make him/her stand out from other candidates.”
