This week we chatted to Tasha, a swimwear designer and founder of Merculture, who loves travel and gave us tips for great Instagram photos.
Learning to let go of what others think is the most liberating feeling that clears a path to create our own destiny
1. Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
I grew up in Hong Kong, in a family with a love for warm climates and often visit beach destinations, say Thailand and Philippines. I have graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Technology (FIDM) in Los Angeles and am passionate about creating arts, like painting, photography and singing.
2. What encouraged you to start your swimwear business?
‘Mer Culture’ means culture of the sea. I love beaches and the whole culture that came with it. It showcases different patterns and traditions that I had witnessed during my travels and I added an artistic element to creating my own exclusive fabric prints. When I first started ‘Mer Culture’ the swimwear business had just started moving from sportswear towards more fashionable pieces which got me very excited for the potential of the industry.
3. Your top 3 places in H.K. that are great for Instagram photos.
– Clearwater Bay 2nd beach which has gorgeous turquoise water with picturesque rocks and pastel lifeguard towers
-Kerry Hotel pool is out of this world with skyline, sunrise and sunset
-Disneyland for whimsical photos.
4. How do you stay fit and healthy?
My favourite ways are exploring cities while travelling, stand-up-paddleboarding, surfing, snorkelling and beach yoga. I switched to a plant based diet 2 years ago and although it was due to moral reasons, I have noticed so many wonderful health benefits!
5. How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?
Life is too short to stress over the small stuff and compare with others. Mindset and gratitude is truly the secret to a happy life! I used to be a people pleaser, but learning to let go of what others think about me has been the most liberating feeling!
