Travel Expert Christy Leung: Exploring the World with Three “Treasures” and Three Kids
When it comes to Hong Kong’s “travel experts,” Christy Leung (Christy Leung) and her “What’s Trending” travel series are practically household names. On screen, she’s always bursting with energy, taking viewers to every corner of the globe. Behind the lens, she’s both a professional host and a mother of three.
We sat down with Christy for a quick-fire Q&A session, covering everything from her travel must-haves to her journey as a young mom and her philosophy on parenting.

The Three Must-Have Travel Treasures: A Laundry Bag, Vitamins, and a Magnetic Selfie Stick
As a travel expert who often spends over a month away from home on shoots, Christy’s suitcase contains three absolute essentials.
First up is a portable laundry bag. “Each shoot takes over a month, and it’s not always convenient to send underwear and socks out for washing, so I wash them myself in the hotel,” Christy explains. Simply put your clothes in, add water and detergent, seal the bag, and shake it vigorously to mimic a washing machine’s cleaning action. It even has a drainage hole for easy rinsing – a true lifesaver.
Second are vitamins and supplements. Getting sick abroad is the worst, especially when traveling to remote areas where seeing a doctor can be difficult. Christy always carries Vitamin C and other supplements to keep her immune system strong and ensure smooth travels.
Third is a magnetic selfie stick. Since most of her shoots are a two-person operation with her husband as the cameraman, there’s no dedicated photographer on set. This stick allows them to easily capture family photos anytime, anywhere. “The magnet holds the phone securely, so we can just put our hands down and snap a family picture,” she says.

Conquering Jet Lag on Long-Haul Flights: Self-Hypnosis and Red-Eye Flights
Long-haul flights are a routine part of Christy’s life, and jet lag is her biggest enemy. Her secret? Simple self-hypnosis. “I tell myself over and over: ‘Must sleep, must sleep, must sleep!'” she laughs. Even if she’s not tired, she forces herself to rest.
Her practical tip is to always book overnight red-eye flights. Departing in the early hours of Hong Kong time allows her to naturally fall asleep on the plane following her body’s internal clock. By the time she lands in the morning, she’s refreshed and ready to jump straight into work or play with the kids.
Family Travel Tips: Let the Kids Be the Tour Guides
For many parents, traveling with three kids sounds like a logistical nightmare, but Christy has a unique strategy: let the children plan the itinerary.
“When I go out with the kids, I ask them to arrange the schedule,” she says. It’s not about parents dictating where to go; it’s the other way around – the kids decide which playgrounds to visit or what activities to do. After work, Christy joins in and plays along with whatever they want to do. As a result, her children genuinely love traveling with her because, besides seeing their parents work, they also get genuine independence and fun on their own terms.

The Young Mom’s Perspective: A Friendship-like Parent-Child Bond
Christy became a mother at 22, and her eldest son is now 22. Looking back, she believes the biggest advantages of becoming a mom early are both physical energy and mindset.
“The most important thing is that I have the physical stamina to keep up with them and take care of them,” she says. She also feels that young mothers tend to be more open-minded and can better relate to their children’s thoughts. “My relationship with my kids doesn’t feel like parent-child – it feels more like friends or an older sister. We laugh, talk, shop, watch sports, and eat together without any hierarchy.”
She adds that because the age gap isn’t huge, there’s no generation gap in communication. Her kids even joke around with her, and their bond is incredibly close and happy.
Upcoming Plans: A European Summer Adventure
To wrap up the interview, Christy excitedly shared her summer plans. She’s about to take her three “little buddies” to Europe to film a new travel show, with stops in Italy, France, and Spain. The best part? It’s a perfect case of “work hard, play hard.” She works during the day while the kids tag along, and after hours, they dive into fun activities – including summer camps tailored to each child. For example, her second son will attend a football camp in Spain. Everyone gets to enjoy their dream vacation!

From practical travel gadgets to a parenting philosophy that treats kids as equals, Christy Leung embodies the modern travel expert and “cool mom.” We can’t wait to see her upcoming European adventures with her three treasures – and we’re sure they’ll bring us even more amazing stories!
