Growing up, Sharon Chan has always had a passion for jewellery. After the birth of her daughter Shannon, she decided to start her own jewellery business, SHAN Stones. Named after and inspired by Sharon’s new baby, SHAN Stones offers lab-grown diamonds and strives to break the misconceptions behind their worth. She talks to Ritzy about what her business offers and where she hopes it’ll head in the future.
1) Can you tell us more about yourself and your background?
I was educated and worked in both Hong Kong and the UK. I studied mathematics at university where I trained my problem-solving skills with a logical mindset. I think these skills were highly helpful and contributed a lot when I started my own business back in 2013 and of course, throughout my entrepreneurship.

I have always had a passion for jewellery and am fascinated by its beauty. But, it was the birth of my daughter Shannon that gave me the final push to start SHAN Stones, which I named after her. Beautiful jewellery could be pass on generations of women.
3) Could you tell us more about lab-grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds and same as mined diamonds in every way. They are physically, chemically and optically the same, except that lab-grown diamonds are much more affordable and environmentally friendly. Basically, they are friendly to Mother Earth and friendly for your bank account.

4) Are there any goals you are planning to reach?
My goal is to introduce lab-grown diamonds to a wider audience from different countries, and tell them at an extraordinary piece of jewellery doesn’t have to be unattainably expensive.
5) How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?
I am very blessed to be doing something that I love. With my job, I get to meet customers from all walks of life, including confident and successful women who have exquisite taste, loving husbands or boyfriends buying a present for their other half, sweet daughters or sons getting something for their parents etc. Simply meeting different people everyday and finding inspiration in them makes me happy and content.
