Ritzy Chat: Stephanie Wong, Founder of Eclats

by Ella

Stephanie Wong is the founder and designer behind Eclats, a brand known for its playful everyday jewellery with a contemporary flair. We talk to the entrepreneur about her background as a banker, how she got her start in the world of jewellery design and how she hopes to expand her brand in the future.

Can you tell us more about yourself and your background?

From young, I found myself fascinated by costume and fine jewellery when I went shopping with my mother.  It was the various forms and ideas that took shape in jewellery that drew me in.

I read accountancy and law and was an investment banker in my past career.  The idea of doing jewellery design had never crossed my mind until 2020 when I took a break from my banking profession. I learned jewellery design and the making of jewellery through a course with Central Saint Martins/ Hatton Jewellery Institute. Throughout this learning journey, I discovered my passion for designing jewellery.

What inspired you to start Eclats?

As a jewellery wearer myself, I always like playful jewellery carrying a contemporary flair. In Eclats, jewellery is a form of contemporary art that brings joy to and shines on whoever wears it.

If you could bring eclats to anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

Shanghai, New York and Paris.

What are your goals in 2022?

First, to introduce a new collection with colours this year.

Additionally, I was honoured to be selected to exhibit my Cog Form collection pieces at the upcoming Milano Jewellery Week in October 2022. So I will be working on this.

How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?

Designing jewellery makes me happy.  Each time I find inspiration for my designs, I have no idea what would come out of them. It is such an amazing process. Being with family and friends make me happy. It’s simple for me. While I used to travel frequently before covid, I think actively seeking new experiences and exploring new things will make my life ritzy.
