To kickstart the Year 8 Project-based Learning theme “Olympic”, it is excited to welcome Mr LI Xiaopeng, one of the greatest Chinese gymnasts to share his extraordinary journey with teachers and students in Yew Chung International School .

Embarking on his gymnastics odyssey at the age of 5, Mr. Li dedicated years to rigorous training, achieving success in national and global competitions, including the Olympic Games. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, he played a pivotal role in securing China’s inaugural Olympic team gold medal and clinching an individual gold in the parallel bars. Despite setbacks in the 2004 Athens Olympics and a severe injury in 2007, Mr. Li persisted in pursuing his aspirations. His triumphant return in the 2008 Beijing Olympics marked a historic moment as he secured two gold medals and garnered 16 international world titles, surpassing the legendary gymnast Li Ning’s record. Mr. Li underscored the key attributes of a professional athlete — tenacity, endurance, sacrifice, discipline, and dedication to the journey. “Success isn’t continuous for any athlete. Follow your passion and hold fast to your dreams,” advised the esteemed Chinese gymnast.
