Joyce Lau, the visionary Founder and CEO of NakedLab, seamlessly blends her architectural expertise and global project experience to infuse her brand with an unparalleled sense of artistry, refinement, and attention to detail. Yet, it was her journey as a mother, coupled with her daughter’s skin ailment diagnosis, that ignited a profound shift in Joyce’s focus. In 2018, NakedLab emerged—a revolutionary bedding brand boasting sustainable, organic, vegan, and opulent bamboo linens. Clinically proven to be devoid of harmful substances, NakedLab has swiftly captured the hearts of celebrities, influencers, and discerning customers alike. Can you tell us about yourself and your background?

Growing up in a family of professionals (non-entrepreneurs), I never envisioned myself creating a product or running a business. However, as a trained and licensed architect in the UK, my perspective shifted when I discovered NakedLab. While it may not be a million-dollar business idea, my genuine passion for a beautiful product that has significantly improved my family’s sleep and skin health motivated me to share it with the world. NakedLab initially started as a side business, but over the course of three years, it gradually became my primary focus. Being an architect, I have always been captivated by the process of building something from scratch. This inherent drive to create and design naturally extended to the inception of NakedLab. It provided me with an incredible opportunity to develop a product that not only encompassed my authentic appreciation for beauty but also had a profound impact on my family’s well-being, particularly in terms of sleep and skin health. We are also very lucky to have a strong and loyal community – we are now in 10 different markets, also represented by renowned hotel groups like Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental.

What inspired you to start NakedLab and why you choose to expend to Singapore?

Expanding our bamboo bedding brand to Singapore is a strategic choice. Singapore, like Hong Kong, offers a thriving market for luxury and sustainable products. Both cities have diverse populations and a strong demand for high-quality bedding options. Additionally, Singapore’s tropical climate, characterized by high humidity, makes bamboo bedding an ideal choice due to its breathability and moisture-wicking properties. By expanding to Singapore, we can cater to this demand, contribute to sustainability initiatives, and leverage the city’s well-developed logistics infrastructure for efficient distribution.

Could you tell us more about NakedLab and how’s your expansion to Singapore?

Expanding to Singapore has been such an exciting project for us. We’ve been making great strides by primarily relying on word-of-mouth promotion, and it’s remarkable to witness the power of community and personal networks in Singapore. The influential nature of these networks has been instrumental in spreading awareness about our brand and products. As we continue to establish our presence in Singapore, we are actively considering the formation of a dedicated team in the region. Building a local team would not only allow us to better serve our customers but also enable us to tap into the vibrant market and cultural nuances of Singapore. In addition, we’re eager to participate in pop-up events and showcase our products to a wider audience.

Are there any goals you are planning to reach in 2024?

We are launching a new product in June. I can’t reveal much yet, but stay tuned! It’s big. We have been researching and developing it for four years.
