Can you tell us about yourself and your background?

My name is Kieran, a born-and-bred Londoner with a love for all things food and beverage. I worked in Data Management before being bitten by the travel bug and took off for an exploration of Asia in 2017, a continent that has always fascinated me. On my travels, I was particularly taken by Hong Kong’s charm and bustle and looked toward a ‘gap year’ in Hong Kong in 2018, when I quickly met my wife, Alexandra. This city has a special grip on people and it’s no surprise that what was initially planned as a gap year became my new home. I really hope to continue promoting this magical city and the incredible stories that play out amongst all the skyscrapers.

What inspired you to start “foodie” and why you choose to expand to Singapore?

It has been an interesting journey finding myself at Foodie. While I wasn’t part of the founding team, we had the opportunity to connect with the previous owner who was open and willing to entrust us with continuing its legacy. As a publication that has held a valuable place in Hong Kong’s F&B industry for over 15 years, I am ecstatic to be part of its evolution. Being an avid Foodie myself, it’s the realization of a dream.

In 2023, an intriguing opportunity arose where I could operate a publication I had been conscientiously reading for the prior 5 years since arriving in the city. Naturally, I jumped at the chance and focused my work on Foodie, following an official move at the end of 2023.

It is at Foodie where I found my passion for media and journalism, and I am grateful to the powerhouse team who shared my vision to rebuild a world-class content-first Food platform in Hong Kong.”

Could you tell us more about “foodie” and how’s your expansion to Singapore?

Foodie is one of the few publications in Hong Kong exclusively dedicated to reporting on food and the F&B industry. With over 15 years of history in the city, it is highly esteemed by food enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Food serves as a universal language across all cultures, connecting people on a fundamental level. It provides a gateway to experiencing diverse cultures and fostering understanding. This is why food stories are invaluable—they offer insights into unique culinary journeys and deserve to be shared, particularly those that are less frequently told but equally deserving of recognition in HK.

We have our new focus on creating new media content – tempting videos, eye-catching photos, and more share-able food stories; while our website remains home to the ‘meat’ of the stories.

Are there any goals you are planning to reach in 2024?

Our big goal for this year is to relaunch the widely-loved Foodie Forks Awards, which returns this year for its 10th edition on 23rd May, following a hiatus since 2020. We’re over the moon to be bringing back this earmark of Hong Kong’s F&B industry and celebrating those who have worked tirelessly to create enjoyable experiences.

We’ve also set ourselves ambitious goals and targets for new videos, interviews, people-centred content, and more to continue raising interest in Hong Kong’s F&B industry.

How do you make yourself happy and Ritzy in life?

A perfect weekend wind-down is absolutely exploring Hong Kong, Singapore, and beyond and their food treasures. I’m also happy when I see deserving success from hard work and watching people’s own F&B dreams play out.
