Ritzy Chat: Asha Cuthbert, Actress, Host and Youtuber

by Ella

This week, we met Asha Cuthbert, a homegrown actress, host and youtuber. She started her career filming videos and being a host several years ago. As of 2021, her Youtube channel has amassed 147,000 subscribers. Asha shares with us her best beauty tips and how she balances her work with her personal life.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

My name is Asha, I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I’m a British-Filipina-Eurasian mix. I’m currently a very newbie actress, you could say.

What inspired you to become a Youtuber?

It was the desire and the thirst to create. I didn’t have a lot of skills but I wanted to create – and having my Macbook out, filming myself, was a very easy and direct way to start.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A lazy day would be chilling at home with my cats, watching a movie and doing absolutely nothing. But recently, my life has been pretty chaotic, it’s gotten to the point that my manager has to book in for when I get my hair dyed. It’s like a first in my lifetime – my mother hasn’t even done that for me!

Now, a usual day is early call time, hair and makeup, either hosting, working, interviewing or attending an event. So yes, it’s really chaotic, but also an amazing ride so far.

How do you balance your work and your personal life?

Here’s an example from the other day. My friends were going camping and I was like, “ahh, I wanna join!” So, I went camping and I still went to work the next morning at 7:30 – I was even early. I still want to have fun and live my life, and also be on time for work. If I just focus on work, I would be very uninspired.

How do you make yourself happy and ritzy in life?

Recently, I’ve been asking myself if I’m happy – no matter if it’s my career or my personal life, even the little decisions like whether I should get a coffee today. Would that decision make me happy? That’s the main direction I’m going in.

What is your philosophy of life?

My philosophy is to not lose myself, to remind myself to be happy and to love myself most of all. I spent such a big chunk of my life unhappy, so I understand how important self-care and self-love is.

Can you share three must-have items in your bag now?

My little Le Beau perfume that I bring everywhere, my hand sanitiser and my phone charger.

Do you have any beauty tips or life tips for our audience?

Life tip: ask yourself if you’re happy – so important because I think a lot of people forget. Ask the people around you too! Beauty tip: cleanse your face with a beauty product – mine is the Foreo – which helps combat acne from wearing masks. It changes your skin game a lot.

What do you love the most about Hong Kong?

It just feels like home. Everything I want and need and have is here, including all the people I love – apart from my parents, they’re in the Philippines. No matter where I am in the world, I will say Hong Kong is home. That belonging is what I love about Hong Kong.

Can you share with us your goals for 2022?

To stay happy, to do well in the upcoming performances that I have and to keep going up, up and up.
